Yay, from Journler.
The friendly people of the stichting anna fonds have approved my grant request for a laptop for computer navigation research for shoulder arthroplasty. Thanks!
So, this week a bunch of boxes arrived with an HP nw8440, and I have been happily going about installing and configuring this and that. First impressions are that it is fast, has a very nice display (1920×1280), and it feels robust (at the cost of not being the lightest laptop in the world).
The fun part this weekend has been to get wireless going. This is where things get blurry. I added an extra network card to my server, which Ubuntu promptly ignored. Rmmod’ing and modprobe’ing the rtl8139cp and rtl8193too modules after booting appear to detect the extra card. Why not the first time, you may wonder with me? Frankly, I don’t care, I added a couple of lines to /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh and made it work. Next, a bit of fiddling with the wireless router, followed by a little fondling of dhcp and a refrobnification of the firewall.
Next on the list: Samba.
Snotty head and bad weather. Hurgh. Nothing else to be done than simple clicky-work that requires no thinking or physical effort. So, I revamped the wonderdokters.nl site. It contains a collection of little notes that advertise wonder doctors in the Netherlands. Obviously, these people are frauds and are only after money. The dubious fun part of collecting these notes is to spot different names with the same telephone numbers.
There is no way around it: you have to have a first post. Here it is. Enjoy.
